KSA Press Statement

Statement from KSA in response to announcements by Amateur Sport Consumer Association South Africa Karate (ASCA-SA)

Karate South Africa (KSA) deeply regrets the statements made by the Amateur Sport Consumer Association South Africa Karate (ASCA-SA) on Facebook and in other forums regarding its dissatisfaction with the alleged conduct of KSA.

We pride ourselves on always acting in the best interests of all our members and individual athletes and it is disappointing to us that there are athletes who feel aggrieved.

When ASCA-SA’s concerns came to our attention, we immediately conducted an investigation to determine whether there is any merit to the various concerns raised by ASCA-SA. We can categorically state that these concerns do not arise out of any unlawful or unfair conduct by us and are based on a misunderstanding of various facts and circumstances. We have, at all times, acted to protect the interests of athletes and more broadly the sport of karate in South Africa. There is no basis on which to allege that we have contravened the Consumer Protection Act.

We are confident that we have conducted our affairs in line with all applicable laws, including the Consumer Protection Act. We will fully cooperate with any investigation by the National Consumer Commission and will continue to offer support to members and athletes as mandated by our constitution.
