“President of KSA, Sonny Pillay, has worked tirelessly for over five decades in the karate field, hence we at UFAK have had no hesitation in appointing him to a major technical position in the UFAK, “ said President Misbahi from the All Africa HQ in Algiers.
“In addition, we are confident that Maestro Pillay Sonny, given his technical expertise and experience will take African Karate (UFAK) to greater heights,“ concluded the UFAK President, who sits on the EC of the World Karate Federation (WKF).
Upon receiving the official letter of appointment last night from the UFAK HQ in Algiers (whilst attending the South African sports awards in Durban) the karate legend, Sonny Pillay Hanshi said “I am absolutely delighted with the exciting news of my appointment on the Technical Board of the African continent and aim to make a positive difference in the lives of our beloved athletes from around the African continent, after all, I am a son of the African soil “
“Moreover it is gratifying to note the confidence expressed in my technical ability by the leadership of UFAK by virtue of the said appointment added Maestro Pillay, who also serves as a member of the Technical Commission of the World Karate Federation (WKF).
“I accept the responsibility and am very aware of the sacrifice and commitment that is expected of me to do justice to my new portfolio albeit my current hectic travel schedule is expected to be increased tenfold especially given that the African continent is huge comprising of over fifty countries (all active in the field of karate)“ added Sonny Pillay Hanshi who was recently elected as President of the Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF).
As a matter of interest, the globetrotting head of delegation for KSA on international affairs, Sonny Pillay recently returned from South America where he secured the rights of the cadet junior and under 21 years World Championships 2021 for Africa that will be hosted on the shores of South Africa in the city of Cape Town.
